Akimitsu is the latest Japanese restaurant in Adelaide located in Hindley St and Tempting Palates were invited to the launch where we tried the amazing new menu. Owner Desmond Wong has run a popular Chinese restaurant in Gouger St for over 30 years until now opening Akimitsu and concentrating on Tempura.
Bringing on board tempura master Chef Tanihara Akimitsu to oversee the menu and kitchen setup making sure the process creates a light, crispy and flavoursome tempura. Judging from what we tasted on the night this definitely was the best tempura we’ve tried in Adelaide in a long while!
We also sampled other dishes on the menu such as Edamame, Yakitori, Porterhouse Steak with Yuzu Kosho and Karaage. The Karaage was another winner biting into the tender chicken with the crispy outer was divine. While we didn’t sample the whole menu, which is extensive the dishes we did try were all delicious and deserving of another visit.
Akimitsu has been open for a few months now and have perfected the tempura process and it worth a try. We’ve had many good reports from friends who aren’t bloggers and even some friends from Adelaide’s local Japanese community have commented on how good it is. With those kinds of accolades, it’s worth visiting soon!
