The Curious Squire Brings on The Southern Charm!

The Curious Squire has gone down South for their new menu. All the way down to Louisiana, in fact bringing the French and Italian influenced flavours to O'Connell St. New Head Chef Joshua Barry has created a menu that combines the flavours of Southern American dishes to jazz up old school American street food. Tempting Palates was invited to the menu launch and got to try some delicious food including one of the best vegetarian burgers in town!

Having worked in Adelaide establishments such as Electra House and The Kent Town Hotel, Josh also spent time working in a 2 Michelin Star restaurant in Milan learning the finer ropes in the kitchen. All that experience brings a more modern touch and more flavours to the already popular The Curious Squire grub that will keep the punters happy.

Starters like Stuffed Mushrooms, Mac 'n Cheese Balls, Chicken Tenders, American Buffalo Wings have all been given the Joshua Barry makeover and we loved it! The Mac 'n Cheese Balls are an American twist on the Arancini Balls and they were our favourites.

The Burger range has also been taken to a higher level. The three we tried were the Curious Burger, the Mother Clucker and the vegetarian Happy Cow Burger. The burgers are full of flavour and packing a punch and we guarantee that no one will leave hungry after having one of these. The carnivores will be happy with the Curious Burger stacked with a beef patty, crispy pork belly, American cheddar cheese, coleslaw, tomato, pickles, lettuce, topped with crispy fried onion rings and squire sauce. The Mother Clucker with southern fried chicken, guacamole, american cheddar cheese, bacon, chipotle mayonnaise, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles was another tasty and satisfying burger.

Our favourite, however, was the Happy Cow. This was the tastiest vegetarian burger we've had in a long time and that's saying something from a meat loving burger eater! It has grilled haloumi, Swiss brown mushrooms, roasted butternut pumpkin, lettuce, tomato, pickled onion, aioli and chimichurri sauce. Truly a winning combination of flavours!

For mains we were served the Texan Chilli, Louisiana Jambalaya, 12 Hour Smoked American Pork Ribs and Slow Cooked Pulled Pork. The best part of all these dishes is how much love and care goes into the preparation of each dish. It's all about the flavours and textures and it shows in the dishes when served. We had a soft spot for the ribs with the traditional tangy BBQ sauce as it took us back to our travels to America where we've had the real thing!

The salads served were the Quinoa & Butternut Pumpkin and the Grilled Haloumi.

For dessert we had a new version of the Deep Fried Oreos Stack and American Buttermilk Pancakes. The pancakes came a close second to ones we had recently had at another establishment but the real winner of the night were the new and improved Deep Fried Oreos. The previous version had you stopping at a few bites but this version had you wanting to order another serve!

The Curious Squire has always been a go to place for Southern American style food. Joshua Barry's new menu just solidifies that reputation. Every dish has been given a new twist and it works so well. If you loved the food before you will love it even more now!
