Spaghetti Western Rides Into Town

There's a new fusion in town and we like it! Spaghetti Western rides on in with its American Italian influence in a three story residence on King William St. with a saloon bar on the ground floor, a cosy intimate restaurant on the second and a function room on the third. Tempting Palates was invited to the launch where we toured the newly renovated premises and tasted some good food including the best meatballs in town.

Head Chef Matthew Ryder has taken the reigns and developed a mix of American inspired Italian food. The kind they used to make when the Italians first migrated to the shores of the land called America. “I pursued a career as a chef simply because I have a passion for really good food, and that’s what Spaghetti Western is all about; hearty Italian food with a strong American influence,“ says Matthew Ryder. The dishes are designed for sharing and there's plenty to get your palates stirred.

We feasted on starters of Zucchini Fries, Wild Caught Sardines and their signature dish of Meatballs. Each starter had a burst of Italian flavours and the meatballs were a dish we couldn't resist and kept going back for more.  The traditional combination of pork and veal with tomato sugo, parmesan and herb breadcrumbs were the "best balls' we've tasted in town!

Zucchini Fries - crispy fried zucchini, lemon aioli

Wild Caught Sardines - Pt. Lincoln sardine with grilled ciabatta, cherry tomatoes, parsley, olive oil

Meatballs - veal and pork meatballs with tomato sugo, parmesan, herb bread crumbs

The mains were another treat waiting for us. Like a dinner at your Nonna's house the table was set with dishes of Snapper, Eggplant Lasagna, Gnocchi, Chicken Piccata along with sides of Broccolini with garlic and chilli and Panzanella Salad. This was an Italian American feast of extravagant proportions.

Snapper - roasted South Australian baby snapper fillet with caulifower puree, cannellini beans, peas, green beans, zucchini, basil pesto, lemon

Eggplant Lasagne - ricotta, spinach, tomato sugo, rocket, fresh mozzarella, basil

Gnocchi - forest mushrooms, sage, parmesan, white wine, garlic

Chicken Piccata - herb and parmesan crusted, white wine, capers, lemon, zucchini, spaghetti aglio olio

Panzanella Salad

The quintessential Italian dessert is the Tiramisu but the Spaghetti Western version has an American twist. The rich coffee flavours have been infused with American Honey Bourbon and it's simply amazing! This dish has the wow factor.

Honey Bourbon Tiramisu - espresso syrup, dutch cocoa powder

We were intrigued by Spaghetti Western and after our visit we saw that this new concept works wonders together. The ground floor offers a loud wild west saloon style bar while the second floor is for those wanting a more relaxed and easy going dining experience. Add the third floor function room and you have the complete package. Spaghetti Western will definitely have us wanting to ride into town again very soon.
