We are proud of South Australian success stories and Marcellina's Pizza is one of them! The first store was opened 50 years ago in 1967 and the pizzas are as popular as they were back in the day. Making pizzas fresh using locally sourced ingredients is the key to success for their longevity. With 12 stores and more to be opened soon the future looks bright for this family operated business.
To celebrate the 50 Years Tempting Palates was invited to make our own pizza. All the ingredients were fresh and it was a lot of fun adding the toppings of our choice. The best part was eating our finished masterpiece! Who doesn't love pizza????
On Monday 5th June at 11:00am to 4:00pm Marcellinas will be celebrating their 50 years by charging the same price for a pizza as they did back in 1967. That's 80 cents. Yes you read that correctly - 80 cents! Get down to the Hindley St store, bring your 80 cents and get yourself a delicious piping hot Marcellinas Pizza. There is a limit of two per person.
Marcellinas has a great history. Owner Brian Aoukar came to Adelaide from Beirut in his early 20s and worked with the previous owners before taking over in 1972. He learnt everything he needed to know about pizza and the Italian way even mastering the Italian language. Some would say he's more Italian than Lebanese! Brian transformed Marcellinas into the institution we all know and love today. We have many fond memories of the days when it was open 24 hours spending Saturday nights or should we say mornings there. Many pizzas were devoured after a long night of partying back in the days.
With so many new players coming on board the pizza train, Marcellinas in Hindley St has adapted and survived in the ever changing pizza business. In 1984 they introduced their delivery service which was a feature that soon became a necessity to any pizza restaurant. Running two stores and having 30 cars on the road meant it was inevitable that franchising was soon to become a reality. To own a Marcellinas Restaurant you must have the same vision and passion as the Aoukar family which is why many owners are either family or staff members that have worked in a store for many years. They take their pizza and running of the store very serious to guarantee the same freshness and quality that has been around for 50 years!
So mark it down in your calendar - Monday 5th June head on down to Marcellina's Pizza for your 80 cent pizza.
