Mollydooker Winery

We love to discover new winery experiences and we found another that stands out in our books. We were invited to the Mollydooker experience and on this occasion we decided to invite a few friends along and make it day of it. It was the perfect setting - wine, food, friends, wine, beautiful scenic McLaren Vale hills and of course, wine! Did we mention amazing wine?

Our host for the afternoon was the charismatic and all round great guy Luke Marquis, son of owners Sarah and Sparky. You can feel the warm hospitality and the cheeky sense of humour that makes Mollydooker a fun place to visit. First up the name...yes, there's a great story to every quirky name and this one is no exception. Mollydooker is Aussie slang for left handed and both, Sarah and Sparky are left handed. When we arrived Luke greeted us by extending his left hand to shake. We had to do a double take and reshuffle our extended right hand to offer our left one,but it was our first introduction to the fun we were about to have!

Mollydooker Wines have a motto "We make wines that make people go WOW through attention to detail and commitment to excellence". As much as we had fun and plenty of laughs we did take note of how excellent the wines were and the seriousness of the process to make such high quality wines are to the Mollydooker team. These wines are seriously good!

Our day started with a glass of Girl on the Go, a sparkling verdelho with tropical fruit flavours. After a glass or two of this one all of us girls were definitely "on the go" and the fun was about to begin! Mollydooker Wines is situated high on Seaview Ridge in McLaren Vale and with a glass of sparkling in our hands we were admiring the views of the rows of rolling vines - it was simply breathtaking.

We were seated at a table specifically set for our visit underneath the shade of the large trees on the property. The setting was serene and relaxing. Our host Luke helped create the fun and jovial atmosphere for the day. Luke had some interesting stories and history of Mollydooker that kept us entertained for the afternoon. There were generous portions of wine tastings to go along with the food platters of home grown veggies and local specialty foods.

Our favourite wines were The Boxer and the Blue Eyed Boy. The Boxer, having subtle oak elements with flavours of chocolate, plum and liquorice, was a favourite amongst the majority while The Blue Eyed Boy had blueberry, rich plum and coffee flavours and as Luke described "a vibrant, ripe, and indulgent experience". Both of those bottles were bought in abundance by the group.

After our food and wine extravaganza we were given a tour of the winery where Luke shared stories of the history and the way Mollydooker Wines are created. Each Mollydooker Wine is named after a family member or person close to the family. It's very evident how much thought and passion is put into the creation of the wines from the vine through to the process, to the taste, to the look and feel of the bottle.

Our afternoon at Mollydooker Wines was so much fun we plan to make another visit soon. It's a great way to spend an afternoon drinking amazing wine, delicious food and hearing fun and interesting stories about the winery. The wines are of the highest quality with funky labels. Mollydooker's have captured a unique and fun vibe for their winery. Along with relaxing and scenic views of beautifully lined vines to delight in, it's hard not to love the place!
