King William Rd Hyde Park is coming back into style with new businesses opening lifting the once quite street to add some much needed vibrancy. Farina 00 Pasta and Wine Bar has only been open a few months but it feels like they have been around much longer serving Italian food at its finest. Owner/Head Chef Lewis Marro has combined authentic traditional recipes with his own modern touch making Farina 00 a must try on your list for Italian restaurants.
Marro has been in the industry for over 5 years perfecting his skills in restaurants around Adelaide and now his dream of one day running his own has arrived. Farina 00 is the type of flour used to make pasta, hence the name of the restaurant. The pasta is made fresh daily and depending on when you are visiting, you might see Lewis in action.
For starters we sampled the Beef Carpaccio and the Arancini di Agnello and fell in love with them both. The beef carpaccio with Coorong Angus beef, garlic aioli, baby chard, capers and 24 month aged parmigiano reggiano was not only stunning it was divine. The garlic aioli was subtle, yet tantalising. The flavours had us wanting more.
While Arancini with chevre, braised lamb, pea puree, grated horseradish and mint was made in the more traditional way of a cone shape, it just meant there was more to eat! Having peas in the arancini is traditional but having it as a puree gives it a lovely soft texture to enjoy with the rice and lamb morsels.
The pasta is the main attraction at Farina 00 and on two occasions we've had the Casarecce which is smoked pancetta, cracked black peppercorns, eggs and 24 month aged parmigiano reggiano and enjoyed it A LOT. A simple dish with simple ingredients with flavours of salty pancetta and a dash of a pepper.
Another dish, which is usually on the specials menu, is the Spaghetti Al Nero. This is one of our favourite dishes with blue swimmer crab, confit cherry tomato, aglio olio style, fresh chilli and squid ink spaghetti. We just loved how all the flavours of this dish blended well together while the seafood flavour was subtle but distinctive.
One of their fine desserts is the Lemon Tiramisu with Limoncello soaked savoiardi, mascarpone, housemade lemon curd, white chocolate and berries. This is not your traditional tiramisu - it is Lewis Marro's take on a lemon flavoured tiramisu and it works so well. The flavours are tangy and refreshing. We love Limoncello so it wasn't hard to devour this dessert!
Farina 00 are offering a great lunchtime special - a choice of any pasta dish on their regular menu and a glass of Pasqua Romeo & Juliet Rosso or Bianco for only $25.00. Available Wednesday to Saturday 11:00am to 3:00pm.
Farina 00 showcases a very traditional style Italian food menu with authentic flavours. It's always a pleasure to dine at a restaurant where the chef and the staff are passionate about each dish as it takes the experience to a higher level. That's exactly what we had at Farina 00 Pasta and Wine Bar.
