Whenever we are in Melbourne we always seem to have a quick lunch that involves dumplings! This time is was at Shanghai Street Dumpling at 342 Little Bourke Street Melbourne CBD. It’s just a small yet busy little eatery that has a high rotation of customers coming in and out. With lots of small tables inside, on this occasion we sat outside as it was a nice day and less crowded.
Our main aim was to try the dumplings and we ordered the Peking Pork dumplings, the Fried Chicken and Prawn dumplings as well as a side dish of Chinese Broccoli in Oyster sauce. The dishes arrived in a prompt manner which was good as we were hungry!
The Peking Pork dumplings were delicious. The dough was firm yet not too thick. It was thick enough to keep the pork filling together. The filling was fresh and tasty. We really enjoyed these steamed dumplings.
Next were the Fried Chicken and Prawn dumplings and again the filling was fresh and tasty. The chicken was more evident than the prawn flavour but overall this didn’t deter from our dumpling enjoyment.
The Chinese Broccoli in Oyster sauce was a generous serving and the broccoli was cooked to a perfect crunch. The only disappointment was that the sauce was too watery with not enough oyster sauce.
Overall Shanghai Street Dumpling is another great place for a quick and tasty dumpling feed. The service was fast, friendly and just like a well oiled machine they just keep on going! This place definitely deserves a repeat visit.
