Scroll Ice Cream

Hey Adelaide! Scroll Ice Cream has come to town and you need... no, you MUST get down to 35 York Street, behind Rundle Street just off Bent Street in the city to try out these beautiful ice cream creations. Tempting Palates was lucky to get a sneak peek before opening day and we just LOVED it! Inspired by the street vendors of Thailand making ice cream on a cold plate, it's a concept that intrigued the team at Scroll. What is a Scroll Ice Cream you ask? Well, it's hand crafted ice cream using fresh ingredients made right in front of you and served as scrolls!

What started out as a pop up store in Melbourne has now turned into its first bricks and mortar store and Adelaide is the lucky city to get first dibs. The store is styled in a cool, funky and fresh way and even has pillars looking like wafers to go with the theme. There is also a wall mural painted by artist Terry Trinh that just oozes the spirit of Scroll Ice Cream - colourful, fun and delicious.

How about the ice cream you ask? Oh, but Scroll Ice Cream isn't just your ordinary kind of ice cream as each Scroll is made from delicious ingredients sourced locally like milk from the South Australian Fleurieu Milk Company. The ice cream is made without egg or gelatine so no preservatives or stabilisers making it a healthy, light and fresh tasting treat.  Catering for everyone's needs - there are even Vegan and Gluten Free options available.

The liquid ice cream mixture is poured on a specially designed cold plate, ingredients added and mixed together, then with a flat ice cream spatula flattened and spread to form a rectangle. Next, comes the hard part that the Scroll team have perfected - that's to scrape the ice cream at the right angle to form a perfectly rolled up ice cream Scroll. With five Scrolls being the equivalent to three scoops of ice cream, you have more than enough to savour. It's basically the Ice Cream version of Teppanyaki!

The Tempting Palates team got to try a few of the flavours including the newly created Raspberry Dash. It's so new it was created by the incredibly talented Duy Dash at the sneak peek event today. It consists of Raspberry Sorbet, Fresh Raspberries and Mint Infused Ice Shavings. Yes, this was a sweet and refreshing delight!

We loved the Coco Lovin' before we even knew it was Vegan and Gluten Free. This purple deliciousness with fresh blueberries and lychee was just the thing to satisfy our taste buds - creamy and fruity.

The Perfect Matcha is made with Green Tea, Lychee, Fresh Blueberries and Strawberry flavoured Pocky Sticks. This was another winner for our palates especially because we love green tea.

The O so serious Oreo Serious Scroll was also amazing and reminded us of cookies and cream! Topped with Fresh Strawberries, Oreo Cookies, Wafer Sticks and shavings of Oreos this was just the ultimate of flavours.

Don't despair as there are plenty more flavours in store to taste. The owners of the Scroll Ice Cream Adelaide store pride themselves in making each and every Scroll fresh right in front of you with only locally sourced ingredients and they are constantly trying out new flavour creations. The team is already practising their soon to come alcohol infused varieties of Scrolls and Tempting Palates got to sample the first take on the Baileys Scroll ice cream - it was so delicious we couldn't stop devouring it.

Scroll Ice Cream in Adelaide is definitely a must try especially if you are a lover of ice cream. Your favourite dessert has been reinvented so scroll on in and try one of these amazing ice cream scrolls, or two, or three....!
