Shandong Mama

We felt like dumplings and paid a visit to Shandong Mama at Midcity Arcade 208-210 Little Bourke St, Melbourne. Chinatown is a hustling and bustling place even at 3pm so it was no trouble to grab a quick bite to eat after the city lunch rush. This place isn't fancy but who needs fancy when you just want good tasting dumplings, right?

We ordered Pork Fried Dumplings and Kung Pao Chicken on Rice.

The Pork Fried Dumplings consist of minced pork with cooking wine and sesame oil mixed with coriander, black fungus, cabbage and diced dry shrimp. Perfectly cooked and a lovely crispy fried outer was evident with each bite. The flavours were well balanced and it was tasty enough to want more. We were tempted but resisted as we had dinner plans for that evening.

The Kung Pao Chicken on Rice was good but not the best we've had. We felt it lacked that spicy kick that you get with Kung Pao Chicken. Having said that, it was well cooked and good for a quick lunch.

We liked Shandong Mama. The service was quick as was the food. It's your typical Asian eatery in Chinatown where you know what you're getting and you will not be disappointed. If you need a quick and no frills tasty lunch - get the dumplings. That will certainly satisfy your hunger!
