Mayflower Restaurant and Bar

Lunchtime catch ups are good and The Mayflower Restaurant and Bar in the Mayfair Hotel at 45 King William Street, Adelaide makes it even better. Hotel restaurants always have a feel of luxury to them and this one is no exception. The bar, the couches and the grand piano next to the restaurant looked magnificent and we were greeted by the friendly staff straight away. We must admit we felt a little special!



Every week day there is a Lunch Time Special from the carvery trolley which changes daily and on this occasion it was Beef Wellington. We also couldn't go past an Entree and Dessert.


For Entrees we had the Freshly Shucked Oysters with Champagne Mignonette dressing and the Honey Cured Duck Prosciutto, Melon and Marinated Feta. The oysters were fresh and the mignonette dressing added a lovely pepper spice. 


The Honey Cured Duck Prosciutto salad was light and fresh. The melon added a nice sweet, fruity element and went well with the prosciutto and feta. A salad is enhanced when the ingredients are fresh and this one was no exception.


From the carvery the Beef Wellington was just divine. The crispy house made puff pastry outer was perfect and the mushroom duxelles covering the Angus beef fillet was full of flavour and lots of tasty spices. The beef was so tender that it was just a delight to eat. The green beans were crunchy and the potatoes were crispy.


We were absolutely spoilt for dessert. How can you resist a trolley full of sweet delights? We just wanted to try them all but had to get back to our prospective day jobs so had to be content with just one each. We decided on the Choux Swan and the Chocolate Mud cake.


The Choux Swan was a profiterole delight with soft cream oozing amongst the strawberry slices. The profiterole pastry was crunchy and the cream smooth and sweet but not overly sweet that you couldn't enjoy it.


The Chocolate Mud cake came with a strawberry macaroon. It was dense but moist and also a real sweet delight. You can't go wrong with anything  chocolate and the macaroon was a nice added touch!


The Mayflower Restaurant and Bar is a lovely place for lunch if you want something more than casual but not pretentious. The staff are friendly and accommodating, the vibe is smooth and the food is of high quality. It definitely is more than your average Hotel restaurant.
