We have been meaning to try Hanuman at 226 South Tce, Adelaide for almost year and finally got to dine on a cold and frosty Friday night. It's neatly tucked away in the Chifley Hotel but when you walk into the restaurant the decor instantly invites you to the Hanuman world. The perfectly professional and friendly staff help add to the warmth where you feel welcome and ready for a lovely palatable surprise.

For entree we ordered the Vegetable Samosas and the Chicken Satay. The first thing we noticed was how both were beautifully presented. The Samosas were nice and crunchy on the outside and the potato/pea filling was delicious with roasted cumin and spices. 

The Chicken Satays were marinated with lemongrass, ground coriander and cumin and served with a mild peanut sauce. Unlike other restaurants, Hanuman's peanut sauce was not overly thick but the spices and flavours balanced so well that we just wished there was more sauce to soak up with the chicken. Another delicious entree.

For Mains we ordered the Butter Chicken and the Beef Masaman. The Butter Chicken is a silky cashew and tomato curry, infused with cardamon and cumin and rose petals. The simplicity of this dish was definitely not in the taste as it was deliciously creamy and full of flavour. The subtle hints of cardamon and cumin worked well with the simple flavour of the rose petals. It is distinctly obvious that fresh quality ingredients are used and they enhance the flavour of the curry. We loved this dish.

The Beef Masaman is a dish with aromatic curry, potato, ginger, nutmeg, tamarind and peanut. Another quality dish with fresh ingredients. The beef was very tender and cooked well with all the spices and flavours blending nicely together. We polished off this dish to the very last bit of sauce as well. 

To compliment the mains we ordered the Roti and steamed Jasmine Rice. Again, both were cooked to high standards even for such plain dishes. The roti was nice and stretchy and perfect to soak up those lovely sauces of the mains. The rice was also cooked perfectly.

For dessert we ordered the Cardamon and Pistachio Kulfi with Gulab Jamun and the Black Rice Brulee with Pandan infused black rice cooked with coconut and topped with caramelised custard.

The Kulfi was beautifully presented and served with ice cream and together with the lovely light sugary syrup just a ball of sweet delight. 

The Black Rice Brulee was another delicious delight. It was just perfect in every way. It wasn't overly sweet so you could evenly taste the Pandan and coconut flavours. Another quality dish.

Our experience at Hanuman was perfect; from the outstanding service to the high quality dishes to the lovely ambience. As soon as our dinner was over we were planning on when we could come again and who we could bring. It's one of those dining experiences you can't wait to tell all your friends about.
