A Hereford Beefstouw

A catch up dinner with friends was in order for the night and we decided to visit A Hereford Beefstouw at 143 Hutt St, Adelaide. When you walk into this restaurant you feel the Scandanavian ambience with its modern yet classic decor straight away. With the napkins hanging from the side of the table to the wooden table and chairs - you feel comfortable with its casual vibe.

The ordering system is also unique by being given a pencil and a menu list where you tick how you want your steak cooked, whether you prefer chips or baked potato and if you want the all you can eat salad bar option.

We all ordered steaks - fillet and sirloin, baked potatoes and the salad bar. The fillet steak was very tender but unfortunately it was cooked more to the rare side rather than medium as requested. The sirloin was cooked perfectly well done as requested and along with the garlic butter was very tasty and tender. Where they the best steaks we've eaten in Adelaide? Probably not but they were good none the less.

The baked potatoes were delicious and large enough to ensure you would not leave feeling hungry! The sour cream on top is a standard accompaniment to a baked potato that always satisfies but the option of butter was also available. The all you can eat salad bar was a smorgasbord of any kind of salad ingredient you could think of! There was a large selection of vegetables, lettuces, sauces and much much more to make the salad to your own liking. All the ingredients tasted fresh and were of good quality.

Dessert is always a must for us and on this occasion we ordered the White Chocolate Parfait - green apples, mint granita and hazelnuts and from the Specials Board the Danish Caramel Sundae - toffee, hazelnuts, mixed berries topped with caramelised white chocolate.

The White Chocolate Parfait is a lovely light and fresh dessert that, thankfully, wasn't overpowering with sweetness. The ingredients to this dessert worked very well together. There was a nice crunch from the mint granita and hazelnuts to compliment the soft white chocolate parfait.

The Danish Caramel Sundae was another delicious dessert. The combination of the toffee and mixed berries smothered by the caramelised white chocolate was a sweet sensation. The burnt white chocolate sprinkles on the top where a crunchy delight that worked so well with the rest of the sweet flavours. The only disappointment was the inclusion of hazelnuts on the bottom of the glass which seemed a bit out of place.

One of the highlights was the service by one of the staff who was highly professional, attentive and went out of her way to explain any item on the menu we had questions about. On previous visits her customer service has been just as outstanding.

A Hereford Beefstouw is a modern, clean and pleasant restaurant to dine when you hunger for a steak. It was packed on a week night which is a always a good indication of it being a popular restaurant.
