German Arms Hotel

Visiting on a  Sunday afternoon at the German Arms Hotel 69 Main St, Hahndorf will usually mean it's a busy place to eat. Busy doesn't equate to lack of quality or service here. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was delicious.
We had the Jager Schnitzel and the Bavarian Brewers Plate and to finish, the Hot Apple Strudel. The creamy mushroom sauce on the schnitzel was a welcomed savoury taste while the sweet mustard sauce on the Rhine potatoes gave it the balance it needed to compliment the rest of the dish. You can't go wrong with the schnitzels at this place. The brewers plate was also a winner with its three different meat options of the crispy pork belly, grilled jagerbraten and the fried paprika chicken. All that food went down nicely with a cold glass of Franziskaner Hefe Weissbier Hell beer.
Dining in a German restaurant with a German from Berlin is always tricky when their expectations are so high. On this occasion the German Arms Hotel passed when it came to being close to the flavours and tastes of Germany. You can never expect the same as in Germany but for Australian standards our German was happy and you know Germans have high standards!
